UBTS Response to the War

On February 24, 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine created the greatest crisis in Europe since World War II. Millions of Ukrainians are refugees living out-of-country or are displaced in their own homeland. The war’s impact has been felt worldwide and no one can predict when this terrible atrocity will end.

But… in the midst of this darkness, Ukrainian Baptist Theological Seminary (UBTS), with the support of UPF benefactors and friends, has been privileged to share the light and hope of the Gospel throughout Ukraine.

Guided by the resolute leadership of UBTS President Slavik Pyzh, a selfless team of staff, students, and alumni has been delivering material and spiritual aid to tens of thousands of refugees and internally displaced people since the day the war began. In the video above, Slavik reflects on the challenges that UBTS and all Ukrainians faced during the first year of the war. The three videos below show how UBTS responded to people’s changing needs in L’viv and throughout Ukraine as the war has continued.

When the Russian invasion began, millions of Ukrainians fled their homes. In L’viv, UBTS cared for thousands of refugees – providing shelter, food, clothing, medicine, and transportation to the Polish border.

As the war intensified, UBTS began receiving and distributing humanitarian aid supplies to scores of locations throughout Ukraine where students and alumni are serving their communities.

Working with churches, businesses, and community groups, UPF and UBTS are now establishing WeCare Centers in strategic locations throughout Ukraine to provide holistic care to people at the local level.
